Brockopp is associate Professor of Religious Studies and History at the Pennsylvania State University specialised in the fields of Islamic history and religion as well as Islamic law in the formative period (7th-10th centuries C.E.).

About himself: "I consider myself a historian of religion who specializes on Islam. My primary research focus is on the literary remains of early Islam, including the Qur\'an, hadith, legal and theological texts. I am particularly interested in the rise of a professional scholarly community in Egypt and North Africa, using early Arabic manuscripts to trace arguments and lines of influence. Recently, I have focused on the question of how these early scholars construct their notion of religious authority. This work has led me to formulate a new theory of charismatic authority, one that attempts to account for the dynamic roles of text, community and history in constructing the charismatic leader. I plan on devoting my next book to fleshing out some of the implications of this theory. Arguably, Islamic law is as much a set of ethical guidelines as it is law. It thereby forms an essential backdrop to modern discussions of war, bioethics, economic justice, etc. I have pursued an active interest in these contemporary issues."

(Source: http://history.psu.edu/faculty/brockoppJonathan.php)';

This association is very hurtful for the vast majority of Muslims who feel their religion and in fact they themselves are attacked this way. The real meaning of Islam is peace and the submission to the will of God.In this program we will try to explore if and how these concepts are reconcilable with violence. We discover the Islamic view on suicide attacks, Jihad and the sanctity of life. We also look at the sources of Islam to see whether there is any permission for violent extremism in Islam.';

Gast["thema_besch"]["Carla Amina Baghajati"] = 'One growing phenomena today is Islamophobia. It is on the rise worldwide especially since the 9/11 terror attacks. As a result Muslims in the West are experiencing discrimination at work, in the society and in their private lives. Recent happenings in Germany, such as the mortal attack on a pregnant woman in the court of Dresden due to wearing her headscarf, vandalism in mosques or the destruction of Muslim cemeteries all over Europe, are manifesting the increasing phenomenon of "Islamophobia"

The Runnymede report identified eight perceptions related to Islamophobia:
1.	Islam is seen as a monolithic bloc, static and unresponsive to change
2.	It is seen as separate and "other." It does not have values in common with other cultures, is not affected by them and does not influence them.
3.	It is seen as inferior to the West. It is seen as barbaric, irrational, primitive, and sexist.
4.	It is seen as violent, aggressive, threatening, supportive of terrorism, and engaged in a clash of civilizations.
5.	It is seen as a for political or military advantage.
6.	Criticisms made of "the West" by Muslims are rejected out of hand.
7.	Hostility towards Islam is used to justify discriminatory practices towards Muslims and exclusion of Muslims from mainstream society.
8.	Anti-Muslim hostility is seen as natural and normal

In this show we will investigate the reasons behind this phenomenon and potential ways of overcoming Islamophobia.';

The best way to know and understand one another is to come together, to talk and exchange ideas. Dialogue is our subject today, or more precisely trialogue- a three way dialogue between the three Abrahamic faiths Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Of course they are sister religions that have so much in common. Most importantly they share the same inherent values and virtues such as goodness, forgiveness, respect for others, peace and justice.But many people don\'t know this and propagate the notion of otherness and incompatibility, even a clash of civilizations. Today we\'ll explore the dynamics and challenges of Trialogue in Europe.';
